Interview with Áine P Massie, Author of the House Millar series ♥ Scavenger Hunt Tour & Giveaway

Hello everyone! I’m ecstatic to have Paranormal Romance Author Áine P Massie here with me today. please say hi and leave her a message or two below.

Áine P Massie is originally from Florida, she now lives in Wisconsin where she works on her House Millar series full time while raising four children (the term herding cats comes to mind). Her major in College was Childhood Education (specializing in ages 0-5) with a minor study in Deaf Culture/ASL. She is also a Wiccan priestess dedicated to the gods, family, and love.

Áine is a proud member of the Rom-Critters and a life-long reader. Áine has always had a particular fascination with vampires, mythology, and the unusual. When she can escape from her children and books, she enjoys . . . oh yes, reading, playing, ritual, a good cappuccino, and working with her healing stones.

Her first published work came in high school where she was part of a writing and drama group. But, she’s been reading the likes of Shakespeare and Poe since late elementary school and enjoys most forms of fiction. Blood’s Voice has been a long time in coming and with its publication (June 1st 2011) Áine embarked on a new chapter in her life.

Welcome to PNR author Áine Massie. How long have you been writing and what was your call story?

Hum, that’s a hard one. I have been writing most of my life. I used to write to ‘get out’ the thoughts, feelings, fears, and pain that I felt. This is a prime hobby of mine in high school. As I matured I put writing on the side burner due to children, work, and family constraints. Eventually the stories crowding my head started to demand to be written and I began making time to write again. Blood’s Voice is the first full-length novel I have written, though it certainly won’t be my last.

Why this particular genre?

I write paranormal romance mainly because that is what interests me the most. Next would be horror but I have a horrid time trying to get into the mind of the vile – writing Anya’s flashbacks is torturous enough. Love is its various forms, especially with a paranormal bent, is the stuff of dreams, or at least mine.

The House Millar series is obviously not a M/M story, though I’ve heard the next book might be, but it does fall within GLBT correct?

Oh yes. Mistress Anya leads the House Millar along with her two loves. Nicholas is a (male) vampire and Declán (male) is a human. Their relationship is f/m/m as all three are equally together. All vampires in my world are omni-sexual (similar to bi). There are also f/f and m/m couples in the story that are close to the main characters.

All of the spelling in Blood’s Voice is non-American English even though you are American and have never lived any where else. Why?

As a child I spent a great deal of time with my maternal grandparents and it seems that some of my grandfathers writing and speech patterns rubbed off on me. It honestly looks wrong to type color instead of colour and center instead of centre. Plus, this story is written from Anya’s – our loving vamp – point of view and so the spelling reflect her ideas also.

Have you had other jobs along the way?

Of course. I have worked in a SA/MI office and as a manager for a plus sized women’s clothing store. I am also a full-time mom and writer.

Do you plot your stories or let your characters lead you?

Oh, the characters definitely lead me. I have tried doing the outline method but trust me, the characters in my stories would have none of that. They want to be heard and do as ‘they’ please without my interference. I still keep notes of plot and thought but those in the story always seem to control the outcome.

Of all of your characters, do you have a favorite you identify with and why?

Most probably think I would answer Anya since I am female and use her name as my signature on many things but in all actuality Declán would have to be my favourite character. He is such a stubbornly loving human that wants nothing more that to love and be loved. All the problems of being in-love with a vampire are trifles in his world view; love is what matters not diet. I can’t say that I’m quite that laid back (okay, not even close) but his attitude engenders him to me in a way that makes him sweet, special, and – best of all – wilful in love.

If your main character had a favorite book or character what would it be?

Oh, that would be easy. Anya would definitely choose the Mad Hatter from Tim Burton’s version of Alice in Wonderland. She sees herself as being loyal and loving but slightly touched and would absolutely adore that depiction.

What are you currently working on?

Currently I am working on Glamour Blade and its follow up novella that is as yet unnamed.

Glamour Blade: When Lord Lorccán goes out for a night at a local club he meets Sir Rory, a sidhe warrior sent to re-establish the Guardian lines, and everything either male thought about love and loyalty is put to the test.

Do You have a motto?

That would have to be the motto on Anya’s ring – Love All, Harm None.

How would you describe perfect happiness?

Perfect happiness would have to be my family together, laughing and sharing in all that life offers.

What’s your greatest fear?

All my fears seem to be wrapped up in worrying about the future and happiness of my children. I had always wanted to be a mother and I was blessed with six beautiful little ones. The world can be a scary place, especially when viewed through the eyes of your loved ones.

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would that be?

Oh, let me think… I would love to visit Ireland most and then on to Scotland. I have always dreamed of visiting both but as of yet have only visited Canada – which is absolutely lovely, by the way.

Who is your favorite author?

Oh goodness. I have no clue! I don’t read authors so much as books. Stephen King, Anne Rice, J.K. Rowling, Jane Austen, Stephanie Meyer, Terry Pratchett, Peirs Anthony, Andrew Grey, Abigail Roux, Mary Calmes, William Shakespeare, Edgar Allen Poe, Tolkien, Isaac Asimov, CS Lewis, Richelle Mead, Terry Goodkind, and too many others to even think of much less name.

What is your favorite color?

That would depend on the day truthfully. I love both blue and green, as noted in both my wardrobe and kitchen.

What are you currently reading?

I am rereading the Cut & Run Series by Abigail Roux. I love, love, love Ty and Zane!

Before I let you go is there anything I forgot to ask that you want the readers and fans to know?

Just that I would love to hear from them. My info is listed below and I hope they will visit and enjoy all I have to offer.

Áine, thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview with me!

About the author

Tempeste O’Riley grew up in the deep south and escaped her conservative, oppressive roots as soon as she could. Tempe is an out and proud omnisexual/bi-woman whose best friend growing up had the courage to do what she couldn’t – defy the hate and come out. He has been her hero ever since.

Though new to writing M/M, she has done many things in her life but writing has always drawn her back – no matter what else life has thrown her way. She counts her friends, family, and Muse as her greatest blessings in life.

  1. Maria D.

Good interview – I think it’s cool that Aine spells words the old fashioned British way that her grandfather did. Good luck on the rest of the tour!

  2. Trix

I’m about to start CUT & RUN myself…nice! My favorite thing about vampires is their complex sense of heritage and history–there’s always an intriguing backstory!

  3. bn100

Nice interview. I like that they’re dangerous.
